Astrology: Basics and Beyond

Fun Times Beginner’s Astrology Weekend Workshop

Friday, October 20th  6:00 – 8:00 p.m.

What’s your sign

Come meet my twelve friends. They’re an interesting bunch who are surprisingly relatable. You will be introduced to twelve strong personalities. Some will be very familiar to you while others, you might not like very much. The dreamer can be a little flighty to the pragmatist. The nurturer, a little too needy for the free spirit, and the perfectionist, very suspicious of the renaissance man.

Each of these characters has a distinct energy and a particular way in which they express it. Getting to know these new friends will help you understand the people around you, and give you something interesting to talk about.

We’ll take a casual and entertaining look at the twelve signs of the zodiac before learning how they relate to you.

What planet are you from

Ever wonder what “men are from Mars and women are from Venus” means? Curious to learn how Santa Clause relates to your need for reward and Aphrodite your relationships. Not only do the planets have intimate relationships with the signs, they each represent a particular behavior.

The Moon is not just some satellite in the sky, it’s a heavenly body that contains your ancestral memories. Not only does it influence the tides in the ocean, it influences your moods and desires. She fluctuates from maiden to mother to crone, always reflecting the light of the Sun.

We’ll learn the connection between the planets and the signs. Once you’ve met the cast of characters, you’re ready for the next step – blending.

Saturday, October 21st   1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Everyone rise and pay your respects to the King and Queen – the Sun and Moon – this royal pair rules the kingdom- your horoscope.

This dynamic duo will introduce you to the blending of signs and planets. Does your king and queen get along or is there tension, rivalry, and conflict at the center of your kingdom.

We’ll learn how your deepest motivations (Moon) influence your purpose in life (Sun). How your feminine energy (Moon) relates to your masculine energy(Sun) and how you express your inner world out there. For extra fun, we’ll play guess who with some mystery Sun/ Moon blends.

Your moon sign is just as important as your sun sign – it’s your other half.

6- Week Intro to Holistic Astrology Part 1

We will then apply the elements and modes as a means to best understanding the signs of the zodiac.

Orientation to the Horoscope

A natal horoscope or birth-chart is a map of the solar system at the exact moment of birth. Students will see what a horoscope looks like and how it is constructed.

The 12 astrological houses form the backdrop of the astrology chart. We will begin our study of the houses and discuss how they relate to different areas of life.

Week Five: TBD 6:00-7:30 p.m.

Houses continued….

Houses, Houses, Houses: Identity through Transcendence

Saturday, November 11

2:00 -5:00 p.m.

Once you’ve learned the  ‘what’ – planets and ‘how’ – signs, you need to understand the ‘where’ –  houses in order to put it all together.  A horoscope is made of 12 houses: each representing a particular area of life experience.

The houses are where it all happens, where the energy of the planet is focused and where it is best expressed.

For example: A Leo Sun typically known for wanting attention, will prefer to work behind the scenes when it’s locate in the 12th house. A Cancer Moon in the 10th house may  love travel and opt for a career instead of a family. The usual desire for this security is modified by the house it is located in.

Houses also have relationships with each other based on the rulership of the planet  placed in a particular house. A vacant house is still influenced by the sign/planet  on the cusp.

For example: A 3rd house Sun will feel develop it’s specialness through learning and communication. It will also have a relationship to the house with Leo on the cusp.

Learning house connections will deepen your understanding of planet/ sign rulerships and the expression of your particular energies.

The house system might seem challenging at first, but once you follow the logical flow, a whole new world of astrology opens up.

Basic Compatibility: Intimate Relationships

October 25th and 26th  6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Who is the best sign for me?

This ubiquitous question is not an easy one because most people only know their Sun sign – which is only part of the equation. The other contributing planets that compose a basic relationship profile are the Moon, Venus, Mars and the planet on your 7th house. To anticipate what kind a relationship two people will have is to understand how these planets get along. If they are in compatible signs, they understand each other, they can relate and are drawn to each other. Dissimilar signs however, cause complications that are sometimes too difficult to bridge.

In this basic 2- day workshop we will explore which signs are best for you and which you should steer clear of, and of course, which you might be mystically drawn to for lessons but not long term commitments. Students in relationships are welcome to bring their partner or simply their chart for analysis.

Is compromise possible?

We will continue to explore relational dynamics with a focus on how to bridge the biggest gaps. Even the most challenging relationships can find an equal playing ground if………communication is valued and practiced. Mercury is the bridge. If all your other planets hate each other but you can openly discuss it with humor and respect, then you’ve got a chance. In any case, compatible Mercury’s are beneficial to sustaining a relationship; as conventional wisdom has taught that communication is paramount to a good relationship.

5- Week Advanced Horoscope Analysis:

Week One: TBD 6:00 -7:30 p.m.

Review and horoscope analysis structure

Students will participate in level 1 horoscope analysis: identifying the Sun/Moon blend and how it is expressed through the ascendant. Students will describe how a person thinks, what they value and how they express their individuality noting how this is or isn’t compatible with the sun/moon blend. They will also identify what challenges are implied and how meaning is found. This too, will be discussed in the context of the houses identifying where there is tension and ease in the personality.

Week Two: TBD 6:00 -7:30 p.m.

Houses, Houses, and more Houses

We will focus on the relationship between houses and planets by noting the specific connections and patterns in the chart. Students will explore each house thoroughly in order to discover which house(s) is most active in a chart.

Week Three: April 27th 6:00 -7:30 p.m.

Angles & Retrogradation

Having learned the basic structure of a horoscope: planets, signs and houses, we will focus on the importance of angles and hemispheric emphasis. Planets placed on an angle are of significant value as are the arrangement of planets in a horoscope. We will also address: Aries Point, retrogradation, Saturn retrograde, Chiron and the Lunar Node.

 Week Four: TBD 6:00 -7:30 p.m.

Aspects Structures

With a basic knowledge of aspects, we will discuss the different kinds of aspect structures: t-squres, grand trines, grand crosses, stellium’s and yods.  We will consider the behavioral challenges, defense mechanisms, and potential strengths these multidimensional aspects add to chart analysis. We will also explore the significance of the associated houses.

We will also address unaspected planets and aspects to the angles.

 Week Five TBD6:00 -7:30 p.m.

Begin Synthesis

Using what we have learned we will begin interpreting our charts.
